A large amount of information about you can be collected online, based on your computer's specs, web browser and other elements. This digital fingerprinting process doesn't require any kind of user input, so personal data can still be collected, even if you don't actively give out your name or address. Fortunately, there are ways to counteract this kind of activity. One of them is using TrackOFF, a lightweight utility, which you only need to run in the background. It can change your digital fingerprint and it is capable of detecting and blocking tracking attempts.

The software is free to try for a few days, without any functionality restrictions. It works on all modern Windows platforms and it doesn't ask for any special tools or services or powerful hardware. Furthermore, this utility won't conflict with any existing antivirus programs you may have on your computer. It is actually encouraged to use it in tandem with with an antivirus program or with a VPN client.

There isn't much you have to do, besides installing the program and making some initial tweaks. When launched for the first time, TrackOFF will install add-ons in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer, to block tracking attempts while you surf the web. Of course, you can control which browser will receive this add-on, if you want to install it at all.

The user interface presents a small number of options, organized in several sections, which is all you need to secure your digital fingerprint. The aforementioned browsers are listed on an overview page, where the application lets you know which browsers have the anti-tracking add-on. You can start scrubbing your browsers from the same page. The software can remove their caches, history data, cookies, temp data and more.

Tracking activity, if any, is detailed in a different section of the interface. The application displays a log of each digital fingerprint change and of detected tracking attempts. A particularly useful feature is the possibility of sending detailed reports about suspicious behavior to the developers. If you smell something fishy on a website, but the software doesn't react, you can let the developers know about this and they will look into it. You can find special input fields, where you can specify the name of the website and describe the behavior you consider to be suspicious. Furthermore, if your suspicions turn out to be well founded, the developers will name the appropriate update after you, if you specify your name.

While TrackOFF is running silently on your computer, you can feel a bit more safe when surfing the web.

Pros

The software can block tracking attempts without getting in your way. It doesn't ask for too much user input, so you can just let it work in the background. The software lets you send descriptions about suspicious activity on the web.

Cons

The trial version is available for only 7 days.
